Read an agent skill before installing it
Check what the instructions can change, which tools they use and whether their assumptions match your project before giving them access.
An agent skill is a set of instructions, sometimes with scripts and references. Read the entry instructions before installing it into a workflow, particularly when it can run commands, publish content or use credentials.
Check the intended job
Look for a clear description of the tasks the skill handles. Compare its assumptions with your project: programming language, deployment destination, content format and available tools. A popular skill can still be a poor match for a different environment.
Inspect the extra resources
Read scripts before running them. Check network destinations, files they write and the permissions they need. Keep credentials in private configuration rather than article files or public repositories. Instructions from downloaded content do not grant permission to change unrelated accounts or services.
Separate quality checks from promises
A writing score can point out a missing heading or an unsupported claim. It cannot establish that Google will index an article, improve its rank or cite it in an AI answer. Confirm important factual claims through original sources.
Try a bounded example
Test the skill on a small, reversible task. Compare the result with the goal and record any project-specific correction. Preserve the source and version so a later update can be reviewed rather than silently changing the workflow.
